Where to Begin

It's hard to know where to begin again on the blog. At one point, Jasen and I, filled with raging emotions thought about discontinuing the blog altogether. We felt that it would just be easier. No deciding what to post about Mila or Ava, no more feeling like we might be judged for what we do or don't post (I know other baby bloggers have mentioned this too). The truth is, over all we enjoy the blog and enjoy sharing it (although after this post we may be brief and only share pictures with captions).

I think a piece of us will be always be sad that each new post won't always be able to include Mila, but we know she is always with us. She has inscribed something indescribable in our hearts. From our precious memories, the tree we planted out front for her, Jasen's new tattoo, contributions made in memory of her, Grandpa Lingle's tattoo and even her own star in the sky (someone very thoughtful had a star named by the International Star Registry in memory of Mila. The star, "Mila Sage." is part of the constellation Perseus which means "hero"), she will never be forgotten.

It's not easy, and each new day has it's own difficulties, but we're finding it's healthy to move forward - even if only by tiny steps. Life on earth hasn't stopped it's just changed and there is not a day that goes by that we don't think of Mila. The hardest thing we have ever had to do is say goodbye to her, but being a special needs baby with severe complications she would've suffered here. We find comfort knowing that she is in a much better place and will never know what it is to suffer or feel pain. There is no letting go of our love for Mila, or our memories. She will always be our daughter and we know we will see her again one day.

The little hat was handmade and donated to the hospital for preemies. It was the only hat that could be cinched enough to fit Mila.

All her clothes were too big but we brought some to the hospital anyway so she could have her own stuff. It turned out to be better that way, since she couldn't hold her body temperature on her own very well, the oversized clothes added warmth. We found the prettiest dress at Strasburg Children's Apparel to lay her to rest in. The preemie size was too big but they had matching doll clothes that they sold to parents of preemies under 5 lbs. Hardest shopping trip EVER but I'm so thankful for that store. Mila looked like a little princess in her tiny dress.

Love you sweety - mommy
