Back to School

School is back in and even little Ava now has a curriculum at daycare...They are using the HighReach Learning curriculum for toddlers. I like knowing that she is not only getting social and emotional support while at "school" but also has the opportunity to learn knew things that naturally teach her skills in a fun and themed way each day.

We had already started working with her on some things at home and right now one of her favorite things is 'itsy bitsy spider." She will try to use her fingers to do the spider and throws her hands all about when the rain "washed the spider out" and then raises her hands over her head when the sun "dried up all the rain." It is the cutest thing! I've tried to get it on camera a few times, but so far the camera itself has become a distraction when we try.

In case anyone is curious, the toddler curriculum used at her "school" is designed to address these main developmental areas:
  • Social/Emotional Development
  • Langauge Development (talking & listening, vocabulary)

  • Small & Large Muscle Development

  • Phonological Awareness: Songs, Rhymes & Fingerplays

  • Color Recognition

  • Creative Expression

  • Self-Concept
